Can I Lose My Salvation?

The quick answer to this one is “no”, once you have been saved you can’t lose it. However you’re looking for some scripture that will confirm it.  Let’s briefly discuss the salvation process  and then find some scripture that deals with whether or not it can be lost.

First, we already know what the gospel for today is…

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;   By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;   And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1 Cor 15:1-4

The gospel for today is simply this.  You place your belief (trust) in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.  God set the situation up so that it requires nothing on your part to become saved and a member of the Body of Christ.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:   Not of works, lest any man should boast. - Eph 2:8-9

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.   Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,   Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.   Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. - Rom 4:5-8

Indeed, if you study it out, you will find that salvation has never been about works!

If you would like more detail about the salvation process you’ll find that here.

But, can I lose it?

As I said before, no.

Let’s give this some logical thought, as well as look at some scripture.  Here are a couple of basic questions you need to ask yourself.

The most important aspect of this whole thing is to realize that God, from before the creation had this plan in place long before any of us even existed.  The salvation process is all about Christ’s finished work on the world’s behalf and nothing about you.  Make sense?

Once a person believes (puts his trust) in the Gospel of Grace he is sealed … permanently a member of the Body of Christ.

“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,   Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.” - Eph 1:13-14

“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,   Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)   And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:   That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:   Not of works, lest any man should boast.” - Eph 2:4-9
